(from the effing heart)

looking for one last crusade
one bright and brilliant shining godhead
to lay down my life to follow;
i have arms i've spent a lifetime forging
please give me the banner
behind which to march;
listen i've been preparing
a clutch of love poems that would break your heart
all i'm asking for is someone to yearn after
for more than a moment
let me start afresh
with this long-legged lovesickness
i've somehow cured myself from;
what's a poet to do with security
what's a poet to do with mundanity
what's a poet to do with the grudging admission
that no one is much of a saint?
there's no hunger in my heart
no fire in my veins
and all the world offers me
is more of the same.
