the snow which blankets london's streets sweeps it clean
for a while; the kindest type of cleaning,
the one which conceals, but does not scour,
burn, and attack; it only tucks away the things
you'd rather not be reminded of.
you always said sunlight was the best disinfectant
but what grows underground holds the earth together:
so forgive me if there are things which remain
better off in the dark - worth keeping under the blankets
at least until the snow melts.
