iomante

it begins with communion
(we should always eat our gods)
when tongue tip touches flesh
transformed by some salival magic
from the dusty bones of wheat
into leaving bleeding meat

it begins with hunger
(we should always eat our gods)
the kind that will not be satisfied
with ripe berries and fat cakes
or the wiped-up remnants of fried
breakfasts and wafer-cone flakes

it begins with necessity
(we should always eat our gods)
when the harvest doesn't come
and the baby is still-born
and the winter is too long
when there's a thought that doesn't
belong

it begins with love
(we should always eat our gods)
with your head on their thigh
wondering how it would taste
to just turn
and not hold back

it begins with decay
when our gods
return the favour

and we find that in the final reckoning
death has the finest flavour

God dammit I'm such a slut for a good use of repetition and look what you did here, look at it! Ngh.
