the divine comedy

when you die you go to hell
it's pretty basic there it turns out
they just tear you apart for eternity
and there's no demons
the torturers of the damned are the blessed
and it's god of course running the show

after a few millenia you ask
what did i do
and god says:
you didn't save the world
and you tell him
that you did the best you could
and he says: but you didn't save it
and rips out your spleen again

after a few more millenia you say
what did i get wrong
and he tells you again
you didn't save the world
and you say: so you're saying
i could've done it?
and god says:

i'm not saying that.
you didn't save the world.

and the blessed continue their work
of reminding you
that suffering is forever
and encompasses the torturer
as well as the tortured

and god continues
not to save the world.
