there is a place where there is justice
among the infinite universes
there is a world, you know,
another world,
and in it the skeletal dead of belsen-bergen
and auschwitz and dachau
break bread with the stick-figure bodies
of ramallah and rafah and tigray
and al-fashir.
they are fat and they are happy
and all day long they cook together
enough bread to feed the whole of humanity,
and they say: we have done this for ourselves.
and among the countless worlds
there is another, you know,
another world,
and in it the architects
of these atrocities we cannot name
awake to an empty cell
and through the bars their fathers and grandfathers,
their mothers and their sisters,
ask over and over:
why have you done this.
why have you done this thing.
why have you done this to me.
there among the possibilities,
all these innumerable worlds,
there is one, you know, just one,
and in it the boys and girls,
who have rained fire on the bodies
of their brothers and sisters,
are forgiven until they scream,
forgiven until they can no longer stand
forgiven until they wish for punishment;
and the ghosts of their disrespected ancestors ask:
why did you do this
to yourselves.
among the infinite universes,
these are some of the worlds,
that i am not in.
